Pea soup from a field kitchen, raisin bread and apple spritzer – for the writer of childrens’ books James Krüss, writing poetry was also a culinary experience. Children aged 8 to 11 bake, cook, rhyme and play according to his versified instructions. The dishes will be eaten together in the yard of the Kulturbrauerei and the poems which the children have written themselves will be read out. Literary games will round off the afternoon: poems to be put together like puzzles, fishing for rhymes and Word Pelmanism. The literary template is Krüss’ book „Mein Urgroßvater und ich“ (“My Greatgrandfather and I”). The dishes and poems will be prepared beforehand in the Berlin libraries for children and young people that are taking part.

The highlight of the evening will be the poet, musician and childrens’ author Jutta Richter, who involves children in her readings. The singer and sound poet Sainkho Namtchylak from Tuva (autonomous republic in the southern part of the Asian half of Russia) will show what unusual sounds the human voice is capable of. Gauner will compere the event, in which children will experience what can be done with language and with their own voices.
