PERSPECTIVE RUSSIA
“Pyataya Noga” (the fifth leg) is an idiom that sums up the position of video poetry in Russian culture. Andrei Rodionov und Yekaterina Troepolskaya, later the curators of the festival of the same name, first met in 2006. They married ten years later. In that time the video poetry genre developed from a graphomanic statement to conceptual art. Today many artists are consciously working in this genre. At the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival Berlin, “Pyataya Noga” presents Russian poets and film makers who are experimenting with video poetry and shows a selection of their work.

COLLOQUIUM DISCUSSION: PROMOTE. PRODUCE. ESTABLISH POETRY FILMS.
Can we strengthen poetry film production in Germany, excite curiosity and continue to expand expertise? In this colloquium discussion we will be having a look at the perspectives for the genre in the past, present and future and its connection to television and new media. Sonja Hofmann and Reiner Nachtwey will talk about the poetry film scenes in Cologne and Düsseldorf. What could targeted promotion for poetry films in higher education institutions look like? What are teachers doing already? The example of France from Emmanuel Ryz from TANT MIEUX Productions will be showing us what a national political promotional structure can look like. Michiel Snijders will be presenting films from The Netherlands and giving us an introduction to the production concept there.

POETIC EDUCATION PROGRAMME
The ZEBRA once again takes children and young people on a shrill and colourful poetic expedition, allowing the Festival’s younger visitors to work intensively with films and poems. In the run-up to the Festival there was a poetry film workshop for schoolchildren in Brandenburg. The films will be premiered here. For Russian-speaking primary school children a film and translation workshop is being offered. Older children will be able to put the plots of their favourite TV shows down on paper and on stage. Additionally there will be an extension training seminar for poetry facilitators and teachers on how to introduce poetry films to the classroom in order to promote poetry.
