Poetry Talk: Niyi Osundare and Titilope Sonuga - The Poetry of Oil
Talk
Niyi Osundare NGA poet and Titilope Sonuga NGA poet, talking to Linda Gabriel ZWE poet and journalist about their life and work
The huge contrast in Nigeria between poverty and exploitation on the one hand and its wealth of natural resources and wild natural beauty on the other hand are the theme of the work of award-winning poet Niyi Osundare and Spoken-Word artist Titilope Sonuga. After years of military dictatorship, Nigeria is back on the path to democratisation, but it is at the same time dominated by civil war and terror, and flight and migration are ever-present. Osundare and Sonuga will be speaking about their lives as creators of culture inside and outside Nigeria – a dialogue about politics and poetry.
The event will have English-German interpreting available.
