Focus on China: How not to speak? – Poetry and subversion in China
Talk
Schwerpunkt China
With Liao Yiwu (writer, China & Germany), Zang Di (writer, China), Lü Yue (writer, China) and Jiang Tao (writer, China)
Moderation: Sabine Peschel (journalist, Deutsche Welle) and Ming Di (editor, China & USA)
Between poetry and politics, between one’s own tradition and a foreign one, between everyday speech and academic speech – this discussion will provide an insight into the vitality of the Chinese poetry scene – what does it mean to write poems in China today, what effect have the massive social upheavals of the last 30 years had on the writing of poetry, how is the political situation reflected on, and what techniques have Chinese poets developed to get round the censorship in their country?
Interpreting will be available for the event.
