PRISM: The Worlds inside your mind – MEMORIES & DREAMS
FRI 13.10.23 | 10 pm | Kino in der Kulturbrauerei
Mysterious monologues on the soundtrack. Worlds of thought between abyss and contemplation. Memories, partly invented, full of postcards, animals and fragmented things. We take a look into the world of ghosts and tortured souls. And show poetry films as manifestations of boundless imagination, as a revolt against the absurdity of suffering.
Hosted by Ingrid Beerbaum
The screenings are normally shown in the original with English subtitles.
Unless stated otherwise, the event languages are German and English.
Please be aware that several films in some film programs include potentially challenging or disturbing content, which may trigger survivors of trauma.

Hiding under bedsheets. Unable to take it anymore. Ripping everything out of the dresser. Scratching the carpet with fingernails. A woman with goggles, curled up in a bathtub. Frosted glass. Maybe a moon, or the world as seen from under the ice. A round disc. Above it: hands, feet, a face. The disc spins, becomes a record, a drum. Script, bodies, and voices in two languages. A stylized synthesis of the arts in four minutes, to a poem by Monique van Kerkhof about lucid dreams – dreams in which it’s clear that one is dreaming.

A meandering poem by Juan Martín Fernández, about man's invasion of nature – and his powerlessness: “You leave for an instant / and the jungle puts its foot on you.”

To awaken to the sound of rain in an empty, massive building. Outside, the wet trees of São Paulo. A movie as a ritual, with the Mayan poet Edgar Calel. A poem, spoken in Kaqchikel, evokes ancestral dreams. Self-surrender, self-reproduction. “I don't know if I am a / person, an animal, an object, or a tool.” The days lose their names.

Summer animation, to a poem by Thom Wijenberg: sunflowers, airplanes, dangling legs. Flat figures, lying on their backs, are entirety composed of sea. Inside the house, there is that incomprehensible espresso machine. An old television through which two people run, lost in themselves. Seeing the evening approach, the light. Two minutes of the best kind of escapism.

Sunbeds are poised on a beach like game pieces. Cut-up cities. A globe is taped to a burning tree.
