Thomas Thiel

Thomas Thiel is the Director of the Bielefelder Kunstverein museum. He studied Cultural Studies and Aesthetic Practice in Hildesheim and Marseilles. Since then he has worked for In Between, the official art project of EXPO 2000, and for Manifesta 4, European Biennale for Contemporary Art in Frankfurt am Main. From 2004‑2008 he was curator and most recently director of the exhibitions section of the Centre for Art and Media Technology in Karlsruhe. In Bielefeld he has organised many solo exhibitions, themed exhibitions, symposia and projects in public spaces. Thiel writes regularly on positions in contemporary art and has edited many exhibition publications. His programme for the Bielefelder Kunstverein has been nominated many times for the ADKV-ART COLOGNE Prize for art museums and actually won it in 2014.
The exhibition ‘Eugen Gomringer &’ (2015) dealt with specific 20th Century trends and forms of presenting and producing contemporary poetry, starting from the work of Eugen Gomringer and in collaboration with contemporary artists and poets. The exhibition ‘Scripts’ planned for 2018 will focus on writing as template and the translation of artistic texts in various forms of production.
