Priest Murat Üzel was born in 1966 in Midin and studied Religious Theory in the Mor Gabriel monastery where he learned Aramaic. From 1982 he worked both in his home city and in Berlin as a teacher of religion and languages, and taught Aramaic on a voluntary basis to children and young people of the Syrian Orthodox community. Since 22 April 2007 Murat Üzel has been officiating as a priest, teaching religion and languages and working in his community as a pastor as well as in the ecumenical representative body. Murat Üzel is married and has two children.
