Milo De Angelis (*1951, Milan, Italy) is an author and translator living in Milan. He made a name for himself with the publication of his debut collection of poetry “Somiglianze” in 1976 and he has since been one of the most important authors of modern Italian poetry. He has written six volumes of poetry to date.
De Angelis’s poetry creates inimitable excitement and energy without at the same time being rhetorical. It has a tragic, existentialist dimension. Transience and death are the themes with which he deals. The barren, grey ambiance of Milan forms the backdrop to his texts. His language can create a strong, lyrical flow. It is sometimes dark but always expressive. His poetry is therefore described as “neuphoric”.
He has translated works by Vergil, Properz, Racine, Baudelaire and Blanchot (among others) into Italian. He published the poetry journal “Il Niebo” at the end of the 1970s. He currently runs a series of the same name for the La Vita Felice publishing house.
