Miguel Azguime

Miguel Azguime (*1960, Portugal) is a composer, poet and percussionist. In 1985, he founded the Miso Ensemble (a duo of flute and percussion), one of the most highly regarded Portuguese ensembles for contemporary music. Azguime has won many awards for his compositions and interpretations. He composes his works for various formations (instrumental and/or vocal, also using electronic); he has written electro-acoustic works and sound poems in addition to music for exhibitions and sound installations, for theatre and dance productions and films. Azguime has created a unique mix of text and music that he describes as electro-acoustic theatre and electro-acoustic opera. Miguel Azguime has been resident composer in numerous electronic studios around the world, namely in the “Experimentalstudio” of the Heinrich Strobel Foundation of South West Broadcasting (Freiburg), in EMS (Stockholm), in the Centre de Recherche et Formations Musicales de Wallonie (Liège), in the Electronic Music Studio of the TU Berlin, in the International Centre for Composers (Visby) and in the studio of the Department of Sonology of the Kunitachi College of Music (Tokyo). In 2006, Miguel Azguime was artist-in-residence at the DAAD Berlin. He has since lived and worked in Berlin and Lisbon.
