Michael Weilacher was born (1969) in Rochester, NY where he grew up studying the piano and later percussion at the Eastman School of Music. He later attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and received his Bachelor's diploma in music performance. While in Cincinnati he worked as a freelance musician in diverse rock groups, a steel drum band as well as with dancers from different schools in the area including from the Conservatory. After finishing his Studies, he received an invitation to study as an assistant to marimba player Robert Van Sice at the Rotterdamse Conservatorium in the Netherlands where he received his 'Masters' diploma. In Europe, Micheal Weilacher worked both as a soloist and as a performer in several music groups; such as Ictus ensemble, Blindman Quartet, De Rosas (Brussels), Musique Nouvelle (Mons), Musikfabrik (Cologne), the Royal Flemish Philharmonic, the Royal Flemish Opera. He has worked with the composers Steve Reich, Mauricio Kagel, Helmut Lachenmann, Volker Staub, Frederic Rzewski, Karel Goeyvaerts, Franscesca Verunelli, Sarah Nemtsov, Clara Maïda and Oscar Bianchi among others.

Michael Weilacher has lived in Berlin for a few years and performs regularly with Sasha Walts@Guests, Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin, Work in Progress, United Berlin, Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, Ensemble Kollektiv and Musikfabrik NRW among others. Since 2014 he has been a member of Berlin Piano Percussion Ensemble and has performed regularly with Alin Aksin Hazz Quintett. Likewise he has recorded for film and radio. He is part of several bands including The Somnamubilst, Ray Gibson and Schachtner Weilacher Duo.
