Lello Voce

Lello Voce (*1957, Naples, Italy) lives and works in Treviso. He is a poet, performer and pioneer of the spoken word in Italy. He has an international reputation and has been a guest at literary festivals around the world. His poetry is a fusion of influences from sound poetry and hip-hop. He works regularly with musicians and video artists. Voce’s poems are based on the sound of the voice. At the same time, he defends in his work the view that “the rhythm of the voice and the depth of breath” do not fit together without “thought, criticism and form”. He describes his art as “post-sound poetry”. As he sees it, he is a political author who needs “cultural traditions and literary experiments” “in order to criticise the form of current language and to create a new one”.
