Anke Becker (b.1971 in Frankfurt am Main) is an artist and curator and has lived and worked in Berlin since 1991. She studied painting at the Berlin-Weissensee University of Applied Art from 1993‑1999.
Anke Becker initiated and heads the international exhibition project Anonyme Zeichner (Anonymous Drawings) (www.anonyme-zeichner.de), is co-founder of the damensalon berlin (Berlin Ladies’ Salon) (www.damensalon.net) and writes the blog economicwords (www.economicwords.com)
Anke Becker’s artistic work ranges from conceptual drawings to visual poetry to collective art actions. Becker is concerned with the combination of line and language, drawing and text, which she explores in multiple ways. By means of partial over-drawing, cutting-out and rearrangement of single elements hidden patterns become visible and new overall sensory contexts are exposed. Becker’s work unfolds its effect in the form of multiple series on which she often works over many years. A basic motif is played through repeatedly in numerous variations, drawing and text are interwoven and complement and comment on each other following an experimental principle of control and chance. Many of Becker’s serial drawings and joint projects with other artists develop over years and have no time limit.
