Open up the treasure chests of language in a playful way, try things out and experiment – that’s what the poetic education projects of the Haus für Poesie offer to arouse interest and excite enthusiasm for poetry.
Since 2006, the Haus für Poesie, formerly the Literaturwerkstatt Berlin, has been promoting the next generations of writers and poets with the writing workshops as part of the open mike and with the open poems series. These give young people and young adults the opportunity to work on their texts with professional guidance, to exchange ideas and gain their first stage experiences.
Since 2010, the ZEBRINO programme for kids with workshops and events has been part of the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival.
Every year texts are played, spoken and handcrafted at the poesiefestival berlin, and poems are filmed, set to music and performed with educators as well as with poets, enabling children and young people to discover their creative potential. And while they’re at it they
learn creative and cultural techniques and lose their fear of poetry.
The Haus für Poesie is also a place for workshops for adults interested in poetry and for teachers. The teachers’ seminars offered provide specific advice for integrating poetry into the school and university curriculum. Teaching units are drawn up, poetry in all its forms is looked at and treated as language work, text, film or work of art. Teaching materials make putting it all into practice easier.
