Vocations: Reimagining the Lied – Salon
Vocations embraces the long tradition of musical and literary salons and reinvents them: the salon allows the Berlin scenes of contemporary poetry and new music to become acquainted while also creating space for transdisciplinary exchange and spontaneous artistic interventions.
Some of the artists included are Avrina Prabala-Joslin (born in Tamil Nadu,1992) and Sol-i So (born in South Korea, 1990) as well as VictorPiano (born in Chile, 1991) and Felipe Sáez Riquelme (born in Chile, 1986), who have developed new experimental art songs for the Vocations series in a close artistic collaboration between poet and composer. These will then be premiered at the Heimathafen Neukölln at the end of October. And here they will provide first insights into their work and the collaborative process of writing art songs.
Composer and singer Sol-i So will perform “Pansori Simcheongga,” a song from the Korean musical tradition, and will be accompanied by percussionist Bo-Sung Kim. Poets Avrina Prabala-Joslin and Felipe Sáez Riquelme will read from their poems together, and multimedia composer VictorPiano will sing a selection of Argentine folksongs. In addition, Svetlana Mamresheva will perform pieces from the work Retrouvailles (2013) by the Greek composer Georges Aperghis as well as Sequenza III by Luciano Berio.
