From Brecht to Tranströmer, from Celan to Szymborska – the voices of poets from around the world can be heard on the Internet portal lyrikline. Raed Wahesh from Syria is going online on 1 November 2016, making him the 1,111th poet, and his poems will make the total number of poems on lyrikline reach 10,000. Thanks to nearly 15,000 translations, the poems in the original from a total of 71 languages can also be understood. This linguistic diversity makes lyrikline unique in the world as a poem portal.

lyrikline is growing constantly, adding between 5 and 10 poets each and every month. The Haus für Poesie, which runs the website, is being given curatorial support from now on. Each year the Haus für Poesie will nominate a poetry expert who will select four German voices. This year’s selection has been made by Tristan Marquardt, and he has picked Michael Fehr from Switzerland, the Austrian poet Margret Kreidl and the German poets Martina Hefter and Charlotte Warsen.

On 24 November, the four poets, who will now be recorded in the lyrikline studio, will be presenting their texts at the Lyrikline Live reading.

Journalists are warmly welcome. We would ask you please to mention the event in your medium:

lyrikline was founded in 1999 by the Literaturwerkstatt Berlin, now the Haus für Poesie. The online portal combines the text, the poet’s voice, rhythm and sound and translations. Currently, institutions from more than 50 countries are working together to present even more poetry and translate it into even more languages. Each institution curates the poems from its own country or cultural area. The texts of the poems are accompanied by information on the poets, video portraits, features on current topics and poetry films. The lyrikline Community makes it possible to list and share poems.
