Anna Huber

Anna Huber c_Bettina Stoess

Anna Huber (born in 1965 in Zurich, Switzerland), is a choreographer and dancer and lives in Berne, Switzerland, and in Berlin. She explores movement and a complex, differentiated language at the interface where art meets abstraction and emotion. Since 1995 she has developed and toured internationally with many solo, duo and group pieces and architecturally-specific projects, which she has taken on tour. In her stage pieces and her inter-disciplinary and room-specific projects and improvisations she creates an independent artistic language which in its precision, complexity and presence produces moments of perception as intense as they are fragile. Huber works internationally as a teacher and mentor at universities and colleges. In 2008 and 2013 she held the Valeska Gert Guest Professorship for Dance and performance at the Freie Universität Berlin.

She has been awarded many international prizes and fellowships for her work, including the Hans Reinhart Ring in 2002, the 2010 Swiss Dance and Choreography Prize and a studio fellowship in New York from the City of Berne in 2014.

Writer Herta Müller (born in 1953 in Nitzkydorf, Romania) lives and works in Berlin and is a Nobel Prize winner for Literature. After studying German and Romanian Philology in Temeswar in the 1970s she worked initially as a translator in a machine factory. She was swiftly sacked for refusing to work for the Securitate, the Romanian secret police. Her first book, Niederungen, was completed in 1978 but not published until 1982 in a censored version. It took another two years for the original, uncensored version to appear in Germany. Interrogations, house searches and threats by the Securitate forced her to emigrate to Germany in 1987.
Herta Müller has been a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry since 1995. She has had guest professorships in Britain, the USA and Switzerland. Although her work is mainly prose, she has nonetheless made an indispensable contribution to German poetry. Müller’s central themes are departure, emigration and leaving without ever arriving anywhere. She received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2009 for her book Atemschaukel.
