2018, for the second time the Filmwerkstatt Münster, in cooperation with Literaturwerkstatt Berlin/Haus für Poesie, will host the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival Münster|Berlin. The festival will be located at Schloßtheater, a repertory cinema in Münster.
The ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival came into being in 2002 and was the first and is the biggest international platform for short films based on poems – poetry films. Every two years it offers poets, film-makers and festival organisers from all over the world a platform for creative exchange of ideas, for generating ideas and meeting with a broad audience. Featuring a competition, film programmes, readings by poets, retrospectives, exhibitions, performances, workshops, colloquiums, talks and a special programme for children, it presents the diversity of the genre of the poetry film in various sections every two years, thereby opening new opportunities for the distribution of poetry.
In 2016 more than 1,000 submissions from 70 countries were submitted for the contest and more than 200 poetry films were shown at its first edition in Münster. Among them were 47 world premieres. The constantly rising number of entries demonstrates the growing worldwide popularity of the genre and the necessity of this festival. Of all the programmes organised by the Haus für Poesie, the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival is the most-booked, receiving invitations from throughout the world.
The ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival Münster|Berlin 2018 has been made possible with the support of Kunststiftung NRW, the City of Münster, and the Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (MKW).
