lab/p – poetry in motion

Authors and animators developed new poetry films in a collective process. The works provide a fascinating look into contemporary poetry and animation aesthetics, and invite audiences to discover new artistic positions. lab/p – poetry in motion is a new project for the promotion of poetry and artistic animation films in Central Germany.

Poetry Films from North Rhine-Westphalia

Part 1: »poetry/film«
A project from the KHM Cologne and the Kunststiftung NRW. As a celebration of the 25th anniversary of its foundation, the Kunststiftung NRW has invited the Academy of Media Arts Cologne to take on texts by young poets from NRW in artistically free film adaptations.

Part 2: »Liminal Spaces. Words and Images«
Students from the Design Faculty of the University of Applied Sciences, Düsseldorf, under the direction of Reiner Nachtwey, developed short, filmic miniatures to poems that they selected by Jürgen Nendza: video animations, stop-motion films, photo films as well as 2D animation.

Spoken Wor:l:ds / Nairobi–Berlin / a documentary

Spoken Wor:l:ds is a literary exchange project between poets and rappers from Nairobi and Berlin. The project is about the artistic encounter, working on translations, new texts and performative forms between rap and poetry.

Circle / 12 Moon

Video artist Swoon has made the poetry short »Circle«, in which poems by Leonard Nolens, Stefan Hertmans, Delphine Lecompte, Charles Ducal, Michaël Vandebril, Lies Van Gasse, Xavier Roelens, Jan Lauwereyns, Marleen de Crée, Stijn Vranken, and Yannick Dangre tell the story of someone’s life.

12 Moons is an artwork combining poetry, voice, music, and video. Twelve poems written by Erica Goss form the narrative. The poems move through a year of full moons, reflecting the hidden influence of the moon on one person’s life.
