Word Pictures: The Premio Strega Poesia – the shortlist reads

On the second Word Pictures evening, poets from the shortlist of the new Italian poetry prize, Premio Strega Poesia, will read: Silvia Bre (*1953), Umberto Fiori (*1949), Vivian Lamarque (*1946), Stefano Simoncelli (*1950) und Christian Sinicco (*1975). The winner was announced on October 5. We congratulate Vivian Lamarque!
Silvia Bre was born in Bergamo in 1953, and has lived in Rome for many years. She is a poet and translator of Naomi Alderman, Siobhan Fallon, Robert Graves, Louise Labé, Doris Lessing, Claudia Rankine, and Alice Walker among others. She is nominated for the Premio Strega Poesia with her current volume "Le campane" (Einaudi 2023).
Umberto Fiori was born in Sarzana in 1949. Since 1954 he has lived in Milan. From 1973 to 1983 he was a member of the rock band Stormy Six. He is the author of poets, essays and a novel. He is nominated for the Premio Strega Poesia with his current volume "Autoritratto automatico" (Garzanti 2023).
Vivian Lamarque, born in Tesero (Trento) in 1946, lives in Milan, where she taught Italian for foreigners and literature in private institutions. After publishing “Teresino“ (Società di poesia 1981), various poetry books, faries and translations were published, Valéry, Baudelaire and La Fontaine, among others. She is nominated for the Premio Strega Poesia with her current volume "L'amore da vecchia" (Mondadori 2023).
Stefano Simoncelli was born in Cesenatico in 1950. He has been living for some years in Acquarola, in the hills of Cesena. He was one of the editors of "Sul Porto", an important magazine for literature and politics in the 1970s. Since his debut “Via dei Platani” in 1981, he published various poetry collections and a novel, most recently "Sotto falso nome" (Pequod 2023).
Christian Sinicco was born in Trieste in 1975. He was editor-in-chief of "Fucine Mute", one of the first Italian multimedia magazines, and founded Lips (Lega Italiana Poetry Slam). He is a CGIL trade unionist and works for one of the highway concessionaires in the Triveneto region. Sinicco is nominated for the Premio Strega Poesia with his current volume "Ballate di Lagosta" (Donzelli 2023).
