Highlights 2023 – dates are set for poesiefestival berlin, ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival und open mike

29.11.2022

In 2023, Haus für Poesie will once again organise an extensive poetry and literature program outside its own event space. The dates for the three major annual events have now been set: poesiefestival berlin, ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival and open mike.

24th poesiefestival berlin

No one is an island

Akademie der Künste, Hanseatenweg 10, 10557 Berlin

6/9 – 6/16/2023

The 24th edition of poesiefestival berlin takes place from 9 to 16 June 2023 in Akademie der Künste/Hanseatenweg. This year's motto No one is an island is based on a text by the English poet John Donne (1572 – 1631).

No man is an island entire of itself; every man

is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;

if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe

is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as

well as any manner of thy friends or of thine

own were; any man's death diminishes me,

because I am involved in mankind.

And therefore never send to know for whom

the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

poesiefestival berlin gathers up to 200 renowned artists from all over the world and presents current trends in contemporary poetry since 2000. In readings and discussions, workshops, concerts and transdisciplinary performances it invites visitors for engaging with contemporary thinking and writing.

poesiefestival berlin is a project by Haus für Poesie in cooperation with Akademie der Künste and is funded by the Capital Cultural Fund.

ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival

Focus Italy

Kino in der Kulturbrauerei and Haus für Poesie

10/12 – 10/15/2023

Berlin will once again become the center of poetry film: from 12 to 15 October, the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival presents poetry film in all its facets. The country focus will be on Italy 2023. The international competition (call for entries in February 2023, deadline 1 June 2023) will select the best poetry films. Poetic education has its own competition, ZEBRino, with an audience jury and offers workshops for school classes and poetry in education. Films and readings intertwine in the ZEBRA Reading Night “word pictures”. A master class provides a behind-the-scenes look at poetry film production and a colloquium discusses current artistic and political issues.

ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival is organised by Haus für Poesie in cooperation with Kino in der Kulturbrauerei. Funded by the State of Berlin / Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa.

31. open mike – Young Literature Competition.

Heimathafen Neukölln, Karl-Marx-Str. 141, 12043 Berlin

One of the most important talent competitions in German-language literature will take place for the 31th time in 2023. In the end, three winners will be chosen.

open mike is organised by Haus für Poesie and by eurobylon e.V. in cooperation with Heimathafen Neukölln and is funded by the State of Berlin / Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa.
