poesiefestival berlin: three D poetry combines words, music and dance

28.03.2017

Music and contemporary dance meet poetry: the new three D poetry format brings more than forty artists together who work with dance, music and poetry, to develop concert performances, choreographies and mini operas together. These include the production ‘n/achtfüssig’ (n/e/ight-footed) by writer Herta Müller, composer Hubert Machnik and choreographer Anna Huber. The première of three D poetry will be on 17 June 2017 at the 18th poesiefestival berlin: Europe_ Fata Morgana in the Academy of Arts in Hanseatenweg. There will be a total of twelve productions of three-dimensional poetry in Berlin in 2017 and 2018.

Artists working with dance and music have chosen poets from around the world living in Berlin to work with them on the cross-genre three D poetry. Poetry has always inspired artists in other media to enter into an aesthetic dialogue with it. One famous example is Franz Schubert, who set poems by Wilhelm Müller to music in the ‘Winter Journey’.

In three D poetry the artists will be sounding out artistic positions on the topic of exile, meaning geographical exile as well as alienation vis-à-vis a social environment, and acquaintances, even friends.
