Phillippa Yaa de Villiers Poet, South Africa, in conversation with TJ Dema, Poet, Botswana.
In her work, Philllippa Yaa de Villiers raises questions of heritage, exclusion and identity, in the most urgent, personal way. Her poems are enraged and melancholic, but also funny, and often self-deprecating in their social criticism. She writes “freedom songs” that make it easy neither for her nor for her readers. The poet TJ Dema from Botswana speaks with her about her life and work.
