Sat. 9 June 11 am to 6 pm
Akademie der Künste, Hanseatenweg, forecourt and Tiergarten
Admission free
Poetry is spreading out into the Tiergarten to demonstrate that there's a market for the small form after all. The poesiefestival berlin is inviting everyone to come and browse and discover wonders at the big poetry market. Selected publishers, antiquarian book dealers and poetry bookshops will be offering newly-published books and rare finds.
A programme of poetry and music will ensure a bustling market atmosphere: Max Prosa, one of the most exciting of the current crop of singer-songwriters, will be giving an unplugged concert. Other artists set to appear will include disco-agitator-chanteuse Bernadette La Hengst, poets' band Fön, musician poet Jan Böttcher and Berlin newcomers Artwhy. Poet and performer Nora Gomringer will be accompanied by percussionist Günter Baby Sommer. Poets Christian Filips and Monika Rinck will be singing chansons. Bert Bredemeyer will be turning into a ballad-jukebox and Rainer Stolz will be leading a poetic bird walk through the Tiergarten. Elke Erb, Christian Filips and Bo Wiget will be answering urgent 'household questions' with cookery and poems. For children there will be a programme of play and handicrafts all about poetry.
There will be food and drink. If it is raining, the Poetry Market will be held inside the Academy of the Arts instead.
