Some 100 Berlin children from Year 4 classes will be presenting poetry classics and modern children’s poems on the stage at the Academy of the Arts. The LesArt team members Kathrin Buchmann (speech trainer), Juliane Eyermann (actor), Matthias Komm (actor) and Frank Kurt Schulz (graphic artist) have been working with the children throughout the whole 2010-11 school year to turn the poems into performative speaking and visual pieces. Featuring: An der Marie primary school (Prenzlauer Berg); Elizabeth Shaw School (Pankow), In den Rollbergen primary school (Reinickendorf), Am Vierrutenberg primary school (Reinickendorf)

Poetry does not have an easy time of it in German teaching in schools. Experts from academia and the chalkface discuss with poets whether poems really do have a bad reputation in the classroom and talk about the challenges faced in bringing poetry to teachers and pupils today.
