Spoken word poet María Eloy-García (*1972, Málaga , Spain) studied geography and history. She made a name for herself on the poetry scene by taking part in various slams. Eloy-García defies the usual expectations in her poetry. She initially adopts current perceptions, influences and customs only to contradict them later with her idiosyncratic language. Sometimes ironically, sometimes surreally, she describes human behaviour in everyday situations: on the bus, in the queue, in the lift.María Eloy-García has collaborated on journals such as “Litoral”, “El maquinista de la generación” and “Fósforo”.She won the Carmen Conde prize in 2001.

Biel Mesquida (*1947, Castelló de la Plana, Spain) is an author, journalist and director of the Mallorca poetry festival. He was influenced by the cultural restrictions imposed by the Franco regime. His musical, emotionally charged and performative poetry displays a critical mind in line with the great tradition of Catalan and universal literature. Mesquida names authors such as Àusias March, Ferrater or even Pessoa and Nabokov as his role models.
Mesquida won the Prudenci Bertrana prize at the age of 26 for his novel “L´Adolescent de sa”l, which remains a key work of Spanish literature. His most important collections of poetry are “El bell país on els homes desitgen els homes”, “Notes de temps i viceversa” and “The Blazing Library”.

Biel Mesquida at ZVAB

Ginesa Ortega (*1967, Metz, France) grew up in a gypsy family in Barcelona. She made her first public performance at the age of 12 and has since been invited to take part in the most important flamenco festivals.
Ortega is one of the few performers of Catalan flamenco. She puts to music the works of poets such as Joan Brossa, Salvador Espriu, Miguel Hernández and Màrius Torres.
She has performed with many different artists, including John McLaughlin and Joan Manuel Serrat. She began to bring jazz elements into flamenco with the group Iberia.
Ortega won international success in 1990 with her original version of Manuel de Falla’s “El amor Brujo”, recorded with the Orquesta del Teatre Lliure with Josep Pons as conductor.
She went on a European tour with the world famous La Fura dels Baus action theatre group and won several awards for the joint CD “Noun”.
She was the Ciutat de Barcelona prize in1997 for her services to flamenco.
