Antoine Cassar

Antoine Cassar (b. 1978 London, Great Britain) is the son of Maltese parents. He lives in Luxembourg, where he works as a translator. Previously, he lived and studied in England, Malta, Spain, Italy and France. His experimental series “Mużajk” (mosaics) is a long-term project that explores the possibilities of multilingual poetry. Antoine Cassar’s goal is to combine the sound and rhythms of various languages to produce a coherent and in itself rhythmic train of thought. He uses English, Italian, Maltese and Spanish to do this and also brings in other languages such as Turkish, Hungarian or German, depending on the theme. Antoine Cassar sees himself as a poetic nomad that takes the freedom to respond in different languages to the voices that surround him.

Øyvind Rimbereid

Øyvind Rimbereid (b. 1966 Stavanger, Norway) lives in Bergen and is one of Norway’s most significant contemporary poets. He is an assistant lecturer at the Skrivekunstakademiet i Hordaland writing academy. His debut work, a collection of short stories entitled “Det har begynt”, was published in 1993. Since 2000, he has been writing mainly poetry. His long poems, in which he initiates profound discussions on social, historical, political and economic themes, have attracted particular interest. Four volumes of poetry have appeared to date. The most significant of these is “Solaris korrigert” (2004), which includes the science fiction long poem of the same name, for which he won, among other awards, the Norwegian Critics Prize for Literature, and which as early as 2007 became part of the canon of Norwegian literature. Most recently, in the poem “Tulipan Manie”, he envisages the collapse of the financial markets. The poem was published just as his predictions became reality. The poem appeared in the volume “Herbarium” (2008), for which Øyvind Rimbereid was nominated for the 2009 Nordic Council’s Literature Prize.

Peter Wessel

The poet Peter Wessel (b. 1950 Copenhagen, Denmark) lives in Madrid. After long stays in Denmark, France and the USA, he settled in Spain in 1981 where he works as a teacher and journalist in the fields of art, linguistics and music. He was already writing in English at the age of 17 and his works were published in the USA. In 2003, he began work on his multilingual poems, which he calls “Polyfonías”. For these, he uses the languages of the countries in which he has lived: Danish, English, French and Spanish. Peter Wessel sees the use of several languages as a natural and organic enrichment of his poetry. His poems integrate and interlink cultural diversity and in so doing represent for Wessel a mark of respect for the beauty of the languages and cultures that in his opinion constitute the real strength of Europe. In 2008, his Polyfonias Poetry Project, which sees the spoken form of his multilingual poetry enter into a harmonious dialogue with Mark Solborg’s music, was released on CD. One poem that was included on this release, “Un Idioma Sin Fronteras”, won second prize in the international art competition 2008culturas.com, initiated by the Spanish Ministry of Culture as part of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.
