What does poetry need? Poetry is a lively element of our culture, its own art form located next to fiction. It enters into diverse relationships with other arts, is a commemoration of humanity. In recent years, poetry has been experiencing something of revival. It is being more closely appreciated, a young poetry scene has developed, readings and other events are successful like never before.
It is now time to talk about a house of poetry in Germany, too, a place that exists only for this art form, an institution that is already present in other countries and cultures: a centre for poetry. In the colloquium poetry centre directors from all over the world, journalists, literary scholars and publishers will be discussing how to establish a centre for poetry, how the current position of poetry and its reach could be shown, how to reorganise the memory of this art form and how, through events and archives, poetry in general could be given a greater presence in Germany’s cultural life.
