Lection & Talk

The series of events dedicated to the 250th anniversary of Friedrich Hölderlin (17.-19. March) is cancelled due to the current situation and the internationality of the project and it is expected to be postponed until the beginning of September.

This evening’s event will be a demonstration of the esteem the poet is held in by the worldwide community of Hölderlin enthusiasts who continue to translate and publish his work. We will be holding up a mirror in every part of the world, in which Hölderlin takes on a different aspect for each continent, country and culture. Eight translators from all over the world are invited: Helena Cortés Gabaudan (Spain), Mati Sirkel (Estonia), Aris Fioretos (Sweden), Zhengxiang Gu (China), Luigi Reitani (Italy), Maria Teresa Dias Furtado (Portugal), David Constantine (Great Britain) and Mehmet Barıl Albayrak (Turkey). They will be coming together and each bringing their own Hölderlin to change and sharpen the picture of the poet we think we know.

Reading and discussion, presented by Meike Feßmann and Michael Braun

German-English interpreting will be available for the event.

The Come! Into the Open series of events is sponsored by the Minister of State for Culture and the Media and the Literature Translation Institute of Korea (LTI Korea). We acknowledge the kind support of Literaturport and ECHOO Konferenzdolmetschen.
