Politics and poetry link these songwriters from four European countries. Berliner Dota is renowned for singing clear messages. Together with guitarist Jan Rohrbach she sings about her anger and the will to change things. British songwriter Will Varley also explicitly calls for protest while allowing glimpses of surprising lightness to shimmer through. Kristi Stassinopoulou’s latest songs deal mainly with the Greek crisis. He gives a penetrating performance with music by Stathis Kalyviotis, a combination of traditional Greek rhythms and electronic music. Hungarian Zoltán Beck writes what at first glance appear to be personal lyrics, which for that very reason reveal a political attitude.
