‘Making sense through nonsense’ is a plea on behalf of language art that confronts language as material. For decades, Christian Steinbacher took care of the literature section of the MAERZ artists’ collective, a position now held by Florian Neuner. Both champion “language art” as a special phenomenon of the poetic. Together with MAERZ member Wolfgang Helmhart, writer Zsuzsanna Gahse and poet Sandra Hubinger they present an exploration of possibilities for advanced poetry. As Steinbacher says, “Poetry laughs with us and at us, but we smile back”.
