Exhibition: Poetry as Sound Art
Exhibition
With sound installations by Gary Hill USA Douglas Henderson Berlin media artists < SA/JO > Karlsruhe
As art forms are hybridised and flow into each other, sound becomes the nexus, the ever-present point of reference for artists of all disciplines. Poetry is no exception. With sound already incorporated into language, its fleeting transience, its tonal coloration, intonation and rhythmic structure do not only form the basis of poetry but also the material for spatial sound design. This year’s poesiefestival berlin presents three sound installations, each with a different approach to poetry, the sound of language and architectural space. American video and sound artist Gary Hill, the German artist couple (Sabine Schäfer and Joachim Krebs) and elective Berliner Douglas Henderson give spatial shape to their sound-poetic compositions in three locations in the Academy building.
