Tom Konyves, born in 1947, is a Canadian poet, filmmaker and pioneer in the field of videopoetry. Konyves teaches “Creative Visual Writing” at the University of the Fraser Valley. At the end of the 1970s he coined the term “Videopoetry”. In his Masterclass, the videopoet explains the interrelation between film and poetry, such as the importance of film for poetry. The video poet and theorist talks about his artistic approach to and the characteristics of videopoems.

"From the beginning, I wanted to see videopoetry that, intentionally or not, would tell us more about itself as an artform, as if it were an existential question,  what it should be, and how it should distinguish itself. So I started to look for a certain amount of self-consciousness, a gesture, a Eureka moment, a “transfiguration of the commonplace” into something different, even significant. I look forward to sharing some of these works with you and anticipate a good discussion" Tom Konyves.
