Der Schwerpunkt des 11. ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival liegt auf Kanada und Québec. Mit ausgewählten Poesiefilmen aus den diesjährigen Einsendungen und einer Masterclass mit dem kanadischen Pionier der Videopoesie Tom Konyves präsentiert das ZEBRA die Vielfalt und die Tradition dieses Sprachraums. Der Schwerpunkt wird mit Lesungen von Louise Dupré, Marie Andrée Gill, Thunderclaw Robinson und Janet Rogers ergänzt.

The focus of the 11th ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival is on Canada and Québec. With selected poetry films from this year’s submissions, and a masterclass with the Canadian pioneer of video poetry, Tom Konyves, the ZEBRA presents the diversity and traditions predominating in this language area. This focus will be complemented with readings by Louise Dupré, Marie Andrée Gill, Thunderclaw Robinson und Janet Rogers.

Funeral rites: for women rings signify adornment, for men power. In her essayistic long poem, Kim Trainor reverently associates the excavation of the Ice Age horsewoman known as “Ledi” in Siberia with the suicide of a former lover.

What does colonialism look like today? The statistics in Saskatchewan reveal that only two out of 101 judges are Native Americans – who conversely make up 81 % of the prison population. Following the not guilty verdict in the case of the death of 22-year-old Colten Boushie, Janet Rogers makes a plea for indigenous people to have their own jurisdiction.

Dieser experimentelle Dokumentarfilm betrachtet Rhythmus und Poesie als kreative Arbeiten innerhalb eines gemischt-kulturellen Dialogs.

A group of poets, rappers, singers and musicians deal with their status as second-generation Torontonians and as colonists on borrowed indigenous land. This experimental documentary film looks at rhythm and poetry as creative work within a mixed cultural dialogue.
